Matthew Deegan.


Head Coach

Biography:

Coach Deegan brings over a decade of coaching experience to the field, combining his deep passion for baseball with a strong educational background. He was a team captain in high school before attending Erskine College, where he majored in Special Education. He later earned a Master’s in Coaching and Sports Administration from Concordia University Texas. Throughout his coaching career, Coach Deegan has made a lasting impact at multiple levels, including 11 years coaching high school baseball. He has also excelled at the summer collegiate level in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League as an assistant coach, contributing to his team's success in both the regular season and postseason. Coach Deegan spent two years as an assistant coach for a Junior American Legion team, helping lead the coaching staff to two state championship tournament appearances. In 2019, he became the head coach and led the team to win the state title. Coach Deegan also served as a Senior American Legion head coach for one year, continuing to foster success and development in young athletes.

Will McSwain.


Assistant Baseball Coach

Biography:

A native of York, SC, McSwain graduated from YCHS in 2016. McSwain pitched for Erskine College (2017-2020) earning a bachelor's degree in physical education and coaching. After graduating, he obtained a master's degree in organizational leadership at Anderson University (2021). As a player, McSwain was named to the Conference Carolinas Academic All-Conference Team for three years, and Conference Carolinas All-Conference Team in 2020. 

Will McSwain is entering this season in his 5th year of coaching, his 1st at York. McSwain previously coached at Cane Bay High School serving as a Varsity Assistant and Head JV coach. While at Cane Bay, McSwain oversaw the outfielders and pitchers in the program. In his two seasons at Cane Bay, the Cobras captured a winning record and playoff appearances each year. Prior to Cane Bay, McSwain served as Head Coach at Springfield Middle, and assisted the York Post 66 Junior Legion. In his loan season with Post 66, the team reached a state championship appearance. During McSwain's time as a coach, 17 players have gone on to play at the collegiate level, and one professionally. Outside of coaching, McSwain worked for Prep Baseball Report as a Tournament Director and also helped run camps and showcase events.

Biography:

My name is Matthew Deegan. I am originally form Pawleys Island South Carolina, where I attended Waccamaw High School. While at Waccamaw, I was a 3 year starter on varsity. During my playing time at Waccamaw I was privileged enough to be selected as the team captain from my junior year through my senior year. After graduating from Waccamaw High School, I attended Erskine College. I majored in special education. Upon graduation of Erskine College I accepted a job at Emerald High School in Greenwood South Carolina. While at Emerald I was the assistant middle school as well as the assistant J.V. baseball Coach. During the summer of 2014 I married my wife, and I moved from Greenwood to York. We now call York home, and are very thankful for the opportunity to be apart of the York community.
